MAC Blot Powder vs Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

Hi Everyone!

It’s that time again! I received a fabulous question from a fellow Instagramie for this “Ask Me Anything” post!

Q: MAC Blot Powder vs Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder – Which one is better? I have both and I don’t know how to use them for different situations.

MAC Blot Powder - Pressed

MAC Blot Powder – Pressed

A: Great question! 😉 These are two completely different products. Let’s first talk about the MAC Blot Powder. This comes in two different forms in various shades: 1) Blot Powder Pressed and 2) Blot Powder Loose. This powder is specifically to control shine throughout the day, without adding any noticeable color or texture. It is commonly used for professional situations. For instance, if I’m doing a job that is going to be say from 8am to 10pm, I’m going to do my touch ups on my client with this blot powder. It is specifically for frequent touch ups. This powder contains mica and silica and is designed to absorb oil and reduce shine. I would apply this powder on parts of the face that I see may be a bit shiny.

The MAC Prep + Primer Transparent Finishing Powder is a colorless finishing powder used to set the makeup. This powder also comes in both pressed and loose forms which will reduce shine while also minimizing the look of  lines and imperfections. The main function is to provide an invisible way to set the makeup. This powder is not ideal for frequent touch ups. You can use this powder over makeup or on top of moisturized skin. Setting your makeup with powder will finish the look and make it last longer.

In conclusion, you can use both powders together. Start by setting your makeup with the MAC Prep + Primer Transparent Finishing Powder. Then touch up throughout the day with the MAC Blot Powder.

As always, thank you for reading!
